38-years-old woman killed by hamster’s bite
An ex-police officer was pronounced dead on Friday (25 May) after being bitten by her pet hamsters.
Mdm Tan, 38, was trying to separate her pet hamsters from fighting each other when 1 of the hamster bit her on the thumb. After the incident, she started to feel numbness in her tongue and hand.
It was then, she was sent to the hospital and subsequently went into a coma. She was later pronounced dead. The cause of death remains uncertain until the autopsy report is out.
Hamsters are not venomous creatures, therefore the chances of a person dying from a hamster bite are extremely low. However, in Mdm Tan’s case, it may be caused by an allergic reaction to the bite due to a pre-existing condition.
