If you’re an active online shopper, you’d be familiar with the satisfying feeling of checking out your items and patiently waiting for the delivery guy to knock on your door with your parcel. However, a trusted Ninja Van delivery driver, Adrian Chong, was caught for keeping over a hundred parcels for himself.

In April 2020, there was an internal audit conducted to improve the system and only then did they realise the high number of missing items under Adrian’s care.

To test Adrian’s integrity, the manager placed a parcel that was not meant for him on his assigned pallet. As part of the procedure, Adriana would have to scan the parcels assigned before going out for delivery. If he scans a parcel that was not meant for him, an error message will pop up to alert the supervisors. However, no error message was prompted that day.

The manager saw Adrian loading all of his parcels into the van and went to confront him. He searched the van and found the mentioned parcel. Adrian then confessed to his mistakes, and the police was alerted as he was dishonest.

Further investigations were conducted and a total of 147 items was misappropriated by Adrian, with a total cost of $12,104. For three months, he has been keeping an eye for a parcel that he would potentially be interested in and he would not scan the item. He will then drop it off at home before carrying his duty of delivering parcels.

On 11 August, he was sentenced to seven months of jail. However, his sentence will be deferred to 18 August due to his circumstances at home.

For breach of trust as an employee, he could be imprisoned for up to 15 years and fined.
