Foreign Workers May be Being Treated like Animals
With social distancing being implemented across Singapore, the foreign workers are not exempted.
Since 10 April, a safe 1-meter spacing between two individuals has been implemented to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has instigated this measure onto foreign workers who often take a lorry to work by introducing safe-distancing partitions.
A photo of such partition has been circulated online and raises questions and disagreements among Singaporeans. Some Singaporeans see the act as “stupid” and putting the workers in a situation like “animals”.
Others say that the partitions may result in serious injuries in the course of an accident and suggested that their form of transportation be switched to buses instead. Especially since there are a number of buses that are not in service now.
To counter the arguments, it is mentioned that the partitions are perfectly safe and stable as they included a four-minute video with it.
Despite the disagreements, some Singaporeans see it as a good idea and could be implemented on “jammed pack MRT” to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
