GrabFood Deliveryman Scammed by Teens Who Refused to Pay
Food deliveries have been a popular option for many, especially during this time where everyone are being cautious over physical contact with strangers. In a recent account by Syed Syafiq, a GrabFood deliveryman, he almost got cheated by a group of young teenagers.
On 4 Aug, he received a delivery order of $50 worth of food from Pizza Hut. As he arrived at the location, he could not get a hold of the customers. He then proceeded to text the customer who claimed that they had mistakenly opt for the cash payment option. They asked Syafiq to leave the food outside and that they’d transfer the amount to him afterwards. Suspicious of the customer, Syafiq insisted that he would only leave the order after he had received the payment.
After consulting with Grab’s customer service department, he was told that he would get reimbursed if the payment doesn’t come in. He then left the food at the door. However, he was sceptical when he noticed that the people of the opposite unit kept going out to throw the rubbish at the chute. He then waited near the chute to see who would collect the food.
As he stayed and watched, he caught two boys coming out from a different unit. They glanced and kept a lookout before taking the food from in front of the door. Syafiq then called the police but only managed to arrest one 15-year-old boy.
Investigations are now ongoing. Syafiq urges other deliverymen to keep a lookout and be wary of customers who seems suspicious. Grab has also banned the user of that particular order.
