Malaysians Cyber Bully K-Pop Singer; Not the First Time
A rising K-pop star from the girl group ‘Fly With Me’, have been receiving unpleasant comments from Malaysians regarding her stage name.
So Young, the singer and dancer, chose Babi as her stage name which resulted in it being ridiculed by Malaysians who expressed that Babi means pig in Malay. A lot of them left comments on her posts by making fun of her name. Some of which are “I’ve never seen a pig this pretty before,” and “This pig is prettier than me.”
Some concerned Malaysians have explained to her what the word means and suggested that she changed her name, and some have called out these Malaysians to stop mocking her as “Malay isn’t the only language in the world.”
So Young has responded on Instagram by disabling the comments on her post. She also said that she isn’t interested in the country anymore after what these Malaysians have done to her. She will also report and block those who are still acting immature after the post.
This is not the first time Malaysians have acted in such way. A few years back, Dua Lipa has posted a birthday wish for he father who she calls “Babi”. Again, Malaysians took this opportunity to mock her for calling her father a pig.
In an interview with the fashion magazine L’Officiel, she highlighted her disappointment and said that the people were actually “quite mean,” especially because she wasn’t speaking in Malay and Babi actually means father in Albanian. She added that she would like her language to “be respected.”
