Man pleads guilty to stabbing the parents of a girl that called him “ugly”
Zachary Machnikowski, 21, pleaded guilty at the court to invading a couple’s home, as well as stabbing them. He will be facing a jail sentence between 12 and 60 years for attempted first-degree murder
The incident happened after a party that Zachary had attended where a girl called him “ugly”. He left the party for the girl’s home in anger. Once inside, he headed for her parents’ bedroom where he went on to stab them as they were asleep.
State attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement, “This morning, Zachary Machnikowski admitted that in the middle of the night, he broke into an innocent couple’s home, armed himself with a large kitchen knife, went upstairs and savagely attacked them while they slept.” He added, “I can’t even begin to imagine the horror the couple must have felt when they were awoken in their own bedroom by a knife-wielding intruder.”
According to authorities, Zachary Machnikowski took a 10-inch bread knife from the house and stabbed the victims, William and Mary Lenk, in the head, neck, and torso repeatedly.
The victims managed to call for help at their neighbor’s house when William Lenk knock the knife out of Zachary’s hand. Both of them managed to survive the attack but suffered more than 7 stab wounds each.
Police soon showed up. Zachary told police that his initial plan was to steal alcohol but he wound up attacking the parents instead to get back at their daughter for the insult.
