Unhappy Customer Blames Restaurant for Father’s Injury

As soon as Singapore kicks into phase 2 after the circuit breaker, many have taken the opportunity to dine in restaurants. A family of five have decided to dine in at Siam Square Mookata, as a form of Father’s Day celebration. However, the experience was not a very pleasant one for Ashleigh Ng.

On June 19, Ashleigh and her family were enjoying their mookata when the unstable table “toppled” and injured her parents with the boiling water. Their personal belongings like mobile phones, were also affected as the water spilled.

Ashleigh proceeded to share that the legs of the table were already unstable and that the legs were supported by paper cups which leads to the unfortunate incident.

After the spill, Ashleigh mentioned that there was no assistance offered by the staff. The supervisor came over to apologise but no first aid assistance was offered to the family despite her father’s arm being scalded by the boiling water.

Upon making payment, the restaurant offered a 15% discount but increased to 50% after Ashleigh had a chat with the in-charged. However, Ashleigh was still unhappy as the injury left her father in “great pain” along with a $131 medical bill.

Ashleigh also shared that the restaurant has reached out to her and offered to waive the medical bill only if she amends her previous post but she refused.

Ashleigh’s Facebook post invited differing point of views. Some felt that it was a one-sided story and that it lacks details. Others advised Ashleigh to sue the restaurant due to negligence while they are at the restaurant’s premise.

The restaurant responded by saying that Ashleigh’s statement of no help being given by the staff was invalid. Although the restaurant was short-handed of staff, they still had someone to attend to Ashleigh’s family.

The restaurant also responded that no one had reached out to Ashleigh to amend her Facebook post. To handle this case, they will be reviewing the CCTV footage for clarification.
