Woman Receives Warning Notice for Upkeeping Plants in HDB Common Area
It is not uncommon for neighbourhood areas to have a common garden for the community to enjoy. However, a resident living in Ang Mo Kio, Ms Fang Shihan, was appalled when she saw a notice prohibiting her family to make use of the area.
Growing up, Fang Shihan had notable memories gardening and digging around for earthworms. She wishes to share the experience with her children as well as limit their screen time during the circuit breaker period. She then brought her children to the community garden and started nurturing their own plants.
As she was spending time in the garden, she managed to have a chat with the older residents who reminisce their experience planting as well. They supported Ms Fang’s act and wished they could do the same if not for the town council’s warning. Another auntie asked Ms Fang is she had paid money to use up the plot of land for planting, but Ms Fang disagrees that only those with money are able to garden.
On the notice of illegal planting put up by the town council, Ms Fang was given a month to remove the plants as the area she was using was a common area. On the notice, there was even a picture of Ms Fang and her children thus raising her anger as it meant that someone had taken the photo and went to the town council directly to complain. She feels that if it was a big issue, he/she could have just talked to her about it.
On May 17, Ms Fang had personally spoken to the town council regarding the issue and the notice was taken down and that the garden is still untouched as of now. She’s grateful for the other residents who were supporting her on the issue.
